Understanding Search Results

The Query Results page is where the result of your search is displayed.

The Query Results page has the following components:

  • A line containing your query along with the number of hits found and the number of documents containing those hits. E.g. Found 184 hits in 76 documents for water

The bulk of the page is made up of the Document List. The Document List is a table listing all the documents found as the result of your query:

1.  SAFETYvictoria - Safety for your child - near water 100% - 22 hit(s)

2.  SAFETYvictoria - Safety in and around water 98% - 17 hit(s)

The document list example above shows how the default Document List is formatted.

  1. The first column contains the document number

  2. The second column displays the document title, by clicking the link you will then view the page.

  3. Column three contains the relevancy bar by percentage.

  4. The fourth column displays the total number of times the words you searched for appear in the document.

  • A line containing information about the documents in the current document list, by default 10 documents are shown per page, any additional documents can be accessed by clicking the Next 10 documents link at the bottom of the document list. E.g.

    Documents 1 to 10 Next 10 documents

Second and subsequent results pages also have a "Previous 10 documents" link for navigation:

Documents 11 to 20 Next 10 documents  Previous 10 documents

If there are fewer than 10 documents resulting from your query, then there is no link:

    Documents 1 to 2

Searching within the Query Results

You have the option to narrow down your search results by making a query within the current query's results.

Use the search box at the bottom of the results page to enter new words to be searched for, with boolean operators if required. See Advanced Search Operator Reference. Click "Search" to search for the new words within the set of results currently displayed.
